Debut 2-year-old winning colt Circunspecto gave his sire Incomunicato his first winner from his only foal of his initial test crop. The smart chestnut sped through fractions of 23.2, 49.0 and stopped the timer in 1:02.0 for the 1000 meter race held on April 14th at the Hipodromo V Centenario.
Circunspecto broke a step slowly, but quickly drew 1 1/2 lengths clear of Libertad (Sicotico – Sunset Thomas, by Dixie Union). He maintained this margin throughout the race and held off to win by a length.
Circunspecto’s sire Incomunicato, was a Dominican racing legend and a very popular runner at the Hipodromo V Centenario. Sold by RSA as a 2-year-old and later returned due to a less that perfect throat, Incomunicato was voted champion 2-year-old colt racing for a partnership of Manfred Codik, Angel Rubio and RSA and his only loss his freshman season was via disqualification. His 3-year-old campaign was inconsistent due to recurring infection and despite this ran 2nd in the Clasico Matias Ramon Mella-G1 (first jewel of the DR Triple Crown). Subsequently an ankle injury forced him to run in the claiming ranks. The game sprint specialist then commenced and amazing string of wins between the ages of 4 and 6 and was retired with 40 wins from 63 lifetime starts. He retired to RSA and despite his unfashionable sire line, we decided to breed him sporadically since his dam India Caribeña was a stakes-winning half-sister to Caribbean Champion Sicotico.
Circunspecto’s dam La Maravilla(USA) by good Florida sire Three Wonders, was a diminutive speedster who accumulated 6 wins between the ages of 2 and 3, among them a victory in the Copa Rio Camu, and was voted Champion Imported 2-year-old Filly. Her brilliant speed came at a price and she was forced to retire with bilateral knee injuries. Due to her small size we were undecided about adding her to our broodmare band, but upon the insistence of founding RSA partner Angel Contreras Mejia she was sent to the farm. The mating of the huge and scopey Incomunicato to the tiny La Maravilla produced the average sized Circunspecto.
The colt was originally sold at the RSA 2013 auction but was returned to us when the winning bidder faced some legal problems that did not permit him to honor his commitments and he was returned to RSA. The colt races in our colors is trained by Juan Jimenez and Eugenio Deschamps and was guided to the wire by Jose Alberto Reyes.
