The fifth race at Hipodromo V Centenario this past Tuesday, July 29th was not a stakes race, but there is something about a field that included 4 undefeated debut winning 2 year-olds that created a nervous buzz around the track.
Gotica de Miel, a chestnut, 2 year-old filly by Tango Tales – Odalsi, by Shooped, broke alertly but could not match the early pace of Ansiosa (Sicótico), who pulled away in the early stages of the 1,100 meter sprint by nearly 3 lengths. Gotica de Miel was joined by RSA’s Circunspecto (Incomunicato), who broke awkwardly and gradually approached the front-runner who sets fractions of 23 2/5 and 47 3/5 s., and drew even entering the stretch. Ansiosa, battled on gamely until conceding the lead in the final meters, allowing Gotica de Miel to draw away by 3 lengths in 1:07 3/5 over a slow V Centenario track. Ansiosa was an easy second, Aventura (Blueformer) edged the tiring Circunspecto a who placed third and fourth respectively.
Gotica de Miel was purchased by her owner Osiris Bautista for DOP $375,000 at the 2013 RSA Yearling sale, is trained by Cleve O. Perez and was ridden to victory by Victor Severino.
Gotica de Miel is by RSA stallion Tango Tales who has impressed in his initial test crop comprised of 5 foals, 5 starters, 5 2 year-old winners, 3 stakes runners, 2 G1 winners, and 1 Champion 2 Year-Old Filly and Champion Two-Year Old. Odalsi, the dam of the winner, was a winner 14 races and has produced stakes-placed colts El Menor (Rationalexuberance) and Icemaster (Favorite Band).
