Sicótico Wins the DR Triple Crown

RSA bred Champion 2yo Sicótico, a bay colt by Blueformer - Lump of Joy, by Lombardi won the G1 Clasico Juan Pablo Duarte to sweep the DR Triple Crown, becoming only the 10th to do so in DR racing history. With this victory he extends his winning streak to 13 races, his lifetime record now 13 wins from 14 starts, having only lost his debut race after dumping his rider at the start.

Sicotico
Sicótico (by RSA sire Blueformer) makes history.

The colt is owned by Manfred Codik and Jose Singer and races in the colors of Establo Jacksan. He is trained by Eugenio Deschamps and Juan Jimenez and was ridden to victory by his regular rider Ramón Maldonado. Out of the Lombardi mare Lump of Joy, Sicótico is a half sibling to 3 stakes winners including Champion Sprinter Compulsivo and to the dam of Champion 2yo Colt Incomunicato. His dam is once again in foal to Blueformer for 2009.

Stallion News: Helios Dead Due to Laminitis; Champion Sires Favorite Band and Carlo Alberto Pensioned.

RSA regrets to announce the following changes to our stallion roster:

  • Helios dies due to laminitis: Freshman sire Helios has died due to an extended battle with laminitis. An undefeated winner of 6 races (once disqualified) was standing his first season at RSA and only covered 2 mares, both which were pronounced in foal. This very game horse will be missed by all.
  • Favorite Band pensioned because of infertility: Champion sire Favorite Band has been pensioned after failing to impregnate any mares in the 2008 season.
  • Carlo Alberto pensioned: Champion 2 and 3 yo, Horse of the Year and Champion Sire Carlo Alberto has been pensioned because of old age.

3 SDtars That Will Be Missed

Tango Tales, a US$600,000 2yo Sales Yearling by Tale of the Cat Added to RSA Stallion Roster

RSA recently purchased Tango Tales, a winning son of Leading Sire Tale of the Cat. Tango Tales was purchased for US$ 600,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Calder 2yo in Training Sales by John Oxley and was trained by John T. Ward, Jr. A speedy and top class performer from 2 to 4, Tango Tales' has a lifetime record of 8 starts, 1 win, 4 seconds, and 2 thirds with total earnings of US$ 68,590, posting excellent Beyer numbers of 104, 102, 101, 100 and 97.

Tango Tales
Tango Tales, by Tale of the Cat - Tango's Mambo, by Kingmambo.

The US$600,000 2yo in training colt was a Kentucky Derby hopeful. He is by Leading Sire Tale of the Cat, already a Sire of Sires due to the success of his son Lion Heart, this year's Leading Freshman Sire and sire of top West Coast 2yo and GSW Azul Leon (curiously Azul Leon has the same successful Storm Cat/Cure the Blues cross that exists in Tango Tales!). He is out of an unraced Kingmambo mare who is out of a GSW and G1 placed mare.

Tango Tales will arrive in DR in the next few weeks and will be available for inspection in October.
